The island, which cost more than your first three cars combined, serves as the geographical center of your social aspiration. It is a masterpiece of modern cabinetry and stone, perfectly situated in a room that is kept at a crisp, unwavering regardless of the humidity thick as wool outside.

The hidden thermal tax: A nine-degree disparity between where we show off and where we sleep.

You find yourself lingering here because the air is moving just enough to be felt but not heard. It is the kind of comfort that costs a premium, the kind of environment we curate for people who don’t actually live in our homes-the guests who stop by for a drink, the neighbors we want to impress, the imaginary future buyer who might one day walk through the front door and fall in love with the backsplash.
